Preventative Health

The four main topics to consider for preventative health care are:

  • Nutrition -- the foundation of health.  Each species has distinctly different nutritional needs, and each patient within a species is an individual.  We recommend that you discuss the best diet for your pet during the yearly physical as there are many factors that affect which foods are best for any individual patient.
  • Behavior -- the number one cause of death in pets.  More than 90% of pets relinquished to shelters are there because of a behavior problem that would have easily been preventable.
  • Parasites -- are not only an issue of comfort and health for your pet, but some parasites are transmissable to people, especially children, the elderly, or pregnant women.  Make sure your pet stays clean with yearly checkups that include blood tests and poop checks.
  • Viral diseases -- there are no cures for viral diseases.  We depend on the pets own immune system to defeat these diseases and we teach the immune system to recognize and kill viruses by exposing the immune system in advance to vaccine (specially weakened, easy to kill) virus.  Once a real virus is inside your pet, vaccines will not help -- they are strictly preventative medicine.
